Earthquake Rattles Northern Japan

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the north Japanese island of Hokkaido on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 188.2 km (116.9 miles), and was centred 17 km (10 miles) NE of Asahikawa, 121 km (75 miles) NNW of Obihiro, and 131 km (81 miles) NE of Sapporo.

The earthquake occurred at 17:03 PM local time (09:03 AM GMT).

No damage or injuries have been reported.
